Foodie Favorites – September 2, 2015

foodie favorites - september 2, 2015 // my bacon-wrapped life

My favorite appetizer, the “lollipop corndogs”, at our go-to burger place in Berkeley (home of this beauty). Totally appropriate thing to eat before a giant burger, yes?

Hey guys! Holy wow – I can’t believe that I just typed “September” up there! It feels so weird for it to be September and still feel so relentlessly hot and sunny and summer-y. The Bay Area typically has a pretty strong Indian summer, and this summer it’s basically been an insanely-freakin-hot normal summer, so I’m not expecting it to cool down anytime soon. That doesn’t mean I’m not super excited for Fall recipes though – you know I’ll be the gal cooking up some pumpkin in my steaming air conditioning-less apartment. No shame! But I’m not (quite) ready for that yet, so let’s enjoy some more summer food – here are this week’s Foodie Favorites!

This summer skillet gnocchi looks like the perfect summer dinner. I’m totally craving that toasty corn and that pillowy gnocchi!

Perfect summer cocktail, anyone? This fig and bourbon summer smash looks amazing! I LOVE the idea of pairing sweet figs and bourbon. I might have to bust out our cocktail shaker at home to try this one!

Grilled Peach and Pistachio Stovetop Granola Breakfast Bowls

grilled peach and stovetop pistachio granola breakfast bowls // my bacon-wrapped life

I can just feel the days of fresh peaches lining the grocery store rows slipping away, and I’m holding on with all my might. Don’t leave me, little guys!! But try as I may, they’re going, and I know this just might be my last awesome-peach hurrah of the summer. I’m trying to be cool about it. (Cue dramatic sobbing.)

Foodie Favorites – August 19, 2015

foodie favorites - august 19, 2015 // my bacon-wrapped life

A gigantic pizza from one of my favorite places in all of Chicago, Piece Pizza and Brewery in Wicker Park. We literally stopped here on the way back from the airport – it’s too good!

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday. How’s your week going? As you can tell by my last post, I’m clearly living the rough life over here. After lots of vacay, I am very excited for a few chill weeks at home coming up – I can’t wait to get back in the kitchen! I’m feeling totally inspired by all the gorgeous end-of-summer produce and want to hang onto these long days of easy, fresh food as long as possible. I hope you’re with me! Here are this week’s Foodie Favorites:

This maple bourbon brown butter peach pie is totally swoon-worthy. Fresh peach pie is one of the best parts of summer, and this version is one of the most gorgeous pies I’ve ever seen!

This grilled pineapple and prosciutto salsa is so cool and unique. I mean, if we can put meat in our salsa, we should probably do it.

Fresh Peach Cake with Bourbon Vanilla Whipped Cream

fresh peach cake with bourbon vanilla whipped cream // my bacon-wrapped life

Guys, I’ve gone a whole 3 months without putting bourbon in something, and I don’t like it one bit. I should be ashamed of myself!

I mean, this cake was just BEGGING for it. Is there a better combination than peaches and bourbon in the summertime? It’s pure Southern goodness, ya’ll.

(I’m sorry I said ya’ll.)
