Today, we brunch. And pi(e). All at once!!

I wanted to make a delicious, decadent recipe for Easter brunch to share with you guys today, and couldn’t help but notice that tomorrow is the biggest nerd holiday of the year – pi day!! Since I am all about the two-for-one bang for your holiday buck (and am also a giant nerd), this “breakfast pie” (a.k.a. quiche) was just the ticket.

Hellooooo first football Sunday of the year!!

This is the kind of thing where, if I had my shit together, I would have posted this nacho beauty last weekend so you could make it for the first football Sunday of the year. But since last weekend I was busy wedding dress shopping (!!!) and making cookies, I hope you’ll forgive me. Besides, we have an entire glorious five months of football Sundays to look forward to, so I think we’re still cool.

Besides, eating an entire tray of BBQ chicken bacon nachos was not my least favorite way to spend the first football Sunday of the year. In fact, one might say it was THE BEST WAY EVER to spend the first football Sunday of the year. One might definitely say that.

Stovetop White Cheddar Mac and Cheese with Peas and Parmesan

I’m slowly re-learning that the weird thing about living in a place with no real seasons is that my food cravings are ALL OVER THE PLACE.

When I lived in Chicago, I very much craved seasonal dishes – warm roast-y vegetables and apple everything in the fall; hearty soups and chili and creamy pasta in the winter; fresh, green, and satisfyingly light dishes in the spring; tons of fresh fruit and BBQ staples in the summer. Here in California, not only is there basically none of the temperature changes that typically accompany changing seasons, but there is also incredible produce available literally all year around. Here, there’s no OMG factor when you see the strawberries or avocados you’ve been waiting all year for. Not to sound ungrateful – most of the time, it’s AWESOME – but without these typical signals, my body is craving all sorts of random things all the time. And let’s be real – I’m pretty much always craving macaroni and cheese.
