Valentine’s Day breakfast-in-bed by Brad (awww, right?!). Egg sandwiches are his specialty, and I ain’t complainin’ about it.

Helloooo everyone! I hope you’re having a good week and you had a fabulous Valentine’s Day weekend filled with tons of chocolate and wine. We stayed home and cooked (it’s a bit of a tradition) and this year went with a Mediterranean theme – these lamb skewers and tzaziki sauce, and this hummus, along with fresh pita bread. We loved everything, but the tzaziki sauce totally blew us away – SO good! I love having Brad’s help in the kitchen, so it was a perfect Valentine’s Day. Now that we’re back to boring, freezing, dreary old February, let’s look at some pictures of food to cheer us up. Here are this week’s Foodie Favorites!

Serious brunch at the Original Pancake House in Chicago. I can never resist a good greasy skillet!

Happy Wednesday, people! How’s your week going? I had a very productive “single lady” weekend while Brad visited his friend Dave in Madison. I caught up with girlfriends, watched way too much Millionaire Matchmaker, and drank tons of wine – I couldn’t have asked for a better girly weekend! Of course, I was more than happy to greet Brad when he got home – a girl can only watch so much trashy TV before she starts to miss watching football a little teeny tiny bit (never tell him I admitted that). On to this week’s Foodie Favorites!

skillet baked pancetta macaroni and cheese // my bacon-wrapped life

I have an important question for you: how do you feel about mac n’ cheese at Thanksgiving?

Personally, I’m all for a little Thanksgiving adventurousness and like to try at least a few new recipes each year. And if that adventurousness involves pasta, cheese, and big hunks of meaty Italian bacon, I’m even more on-board. But I know many, many Thanksgiving purists too, and that’s totally cool! If you’re in the traditional turkey/gravy/stuffing/mashed potatoes/sweet potato casserole no-weird-stuff-no-way-no-how camp, stick around because I have an awesome classic Turkey day side recipe comin’ atcha next week, so just hold tight up in here.

Macaroni and Cheese with Smoked Gouda and Spinach

IMG_0484

I’m all about eating healthy most of the time, and practicing moderation and all that. Kale, edamame, hummus, whole wheat bread – this is all my jam. Weird diet products that you can’t pronounce or anything with the words “low carb” in the title? Not my thing. My philosophy on eating healthy goes something like this: adding wholesome stuff that tastes delicious = good. Using weird “health” products that taste like chemicals with ingredients you can’t pronounce = bad. I’m all about eating your greens and antioxidants, but if it doesn’t taste good, I can’t get on board. And enough with the chemical fake sugar, people!! Sugar is totally cool.
