foodie favorites - august 20, 2014 // my bacon-wrapped lifeOh yes, there was some serious brunching this weekend

Hey guys! How has your week been going? I seriously cannot believe how fast August is flying by…that’s what happens when you have visitors 3 weekends in a row! Not that I’m complaining about lots of food and sightseeing and fam time, of course. Now on to this week’s Foodie Favorites!

First things first: I made the above breakfast strata this weekend and it was incredible. Not only did it provide breakfast for 4 hungry people both Saturday and Sunday mornings, but the flavor is out of this world. We all loved it! It’s definitely my new go-to brunch dish.

I’m totally craving these s’mores cupcakes. Clearly, I’m really into s’mores this week. Pre-emptive summer nostalgia much?

This bourbon caramelized bacon BLT is seriously out of control, in the best way possible. I am totally making that bourbon-glazed bacon ASAP.

This weekend we ate a lot, but my favorite meal had to be at our #1 go-to Italian place in Chicago: Quartino. Can’t give this place enough props – it always hits the spot! If you haven’t been, must-orders include the veal meatball sliders, the romaine hearts salad, the orecchiette with fennel-sausage ragu, and the Quattro stagioni pizza. Oh, and don’t forget a liter of the all-too-drinkable house red wine!

These chocolate almond butter cookies look like the perfect healthy snack. I mean, you had me at chocolate and almond butter.

This farmers market cornbread might be the most gorgeous thing I’ve seen all week. What a perfect way to make use of any end-of-summer veggies!

That’s it for this week – hope you enjoyed this week’s Foodie Favorites! Now get out there and make some summer-y stuff before the season is over!
