The BEST Self-Guided Beer Tour of Munich!

the best self-guided beer tour of munich // my bacon-wrapped life

Last time we went to Munich, we were there for Oktoberfest, which is something I’d highly recommend to any beer lover (or pretty much anyone, to be honest) to go to at least once. This time around though, we decided to skip the crowds and hefty price tags and went a little before the festival started – which meant we had to DIY our beer drinking experience. My father-in-law Merle mapped out six of the classic Munich brauhauses (beer halls) and we embarked on an aggressive plan to visit all six in one day!

Fortunately, due to eating a meal or snack at almost every stop, we all made it out very much alive and had the BEST time. I wanted to share our self-guided beer tour because I thought it was the most amazing way to sample all the various classic beers Munich has to offer in one day, and it was also an incredible way to see the city! Plus, as you’ll see below, each of the different brauhauses had such a different vibe and were all so unique and fun. Read on for all the details for the best self-guided beer tour of Munich (and check out my handy dandy map guide below)!

Restaurant Reviews: Vienna, Austria

restaurant reviews - vienna, austria // my bacon-wrapped life

Whew! After two incredible weeks of road tripping around Europe, we’re back home in the States. Even though it’s always nice to be back in your own bed, the vacation withdrawal is so real – I pretty much can’t stop flipping through all the pictures from our incredible trip and dreaming about all the German beer, street food sausages, delicious Austrian and Czech wine, and sweet apple strudel we ate over the past 2 weeks. I’m so excited to be able to relive a little bit of the magic over the next few weeks right here!

First stop: Vienna, Austria! I knew Vienna was going to be beautiful, but I wasn’t prepared to eat (and drink) so well in this gorgeous, relatively quiet city. I absolutely loved Vienna because it was so walkable and low-key; it’s filled with beautiful parks, incredible palaces, museums, and other architecture, and quaint little coffee shops and cafes everywhere. My dream! We ate at so many amazing places in Vienna and even had one of the very best meals of my life – I’ve rounded up all of our favorites below.

Review: CourseHorse and Chef Joe’s Culinary Salon

coursehorse and chef joe's culinary salon // my bacon-wrapped life

Happy Sunday, friends!

Just popping in today to share some photos from an awesome cooking class we took a few weekends ago at Chef Joe’s Culinary Salon in San Francisco. We had the absolute best time (despite a finger-slicing injury on my part…) and I am very excited to share the love!

I heard about Chef Joe’s Culinary Salon from CourseHorse, which is a discovery and booking tool for local classes that operates in a TON of cities (although it is still in beta in SF). You can search for pretty much any type of class, from art to tech to life skills to cooking, and find tons of local classes aggregated to choose from. For me, it was an awesome way to find small local cooking classes in San Francisco that I may not have found otherwise, and the ability to book right through the site makes it so easy!

Restaurant Reviews: Sydney, Australia

restaurant reviews: sydney, australia // my bacon-wrapped life

Well hi there! I can’t believe it’s been almost a MONTH since our incredible honeymoon to Australia – January has been a combination of crazy busy (work/LIFE), terribly sick (both Brad and I got gnarly colds, ugh), and super fun (ski trip to Tahoe last weekend!). Between all the excitement and nose-blowing, this is the first chance I’ve had to properly get all my food-thoughts together. But I couldn’t skip at least TRYING to do the incredible city of Sydney justice here. We ate and drank way too many amazing things to let that happen!

While we had two incredibly delicious fancy dinners while we were there (at Café Sydney and Aria – both of which I would definitely recommend), Brad and I both agreed that our favorite meals of the trip were actually the breakfasts and lunches! Which worked out nicely with my ability to take pictures :). We also cooked a few times and had some amazing shrimp from the Sydney fish market, but these were my favorite Sydney eats!
