You know when a food blogger posts two boozy recipes in a row, there’s something going on that’s worthy of some serious celebration. Well, I promise I won’t disappoint on that front. Not only is today my 25th birthday, not only is New Year’s Eve in just a few short days, not only is it the happiest and most relaxing and coziest time of the year…
But also last week Brad asked me to marry him, and I said yes.

This is exactly the thing I would make for trick-or-treaters if I lived in the good old days when kids were allowed to eat homemade candy and other unpackaged goodies, back when you didn’t have to throw away all the pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies that kindly old ladies baked thinking they were doing something nice. There must have been a time like that, right? Before anthrax and serial killers?
Never thought I would talk about anthrax OR serial killers on my food blog, but hey, there’s a first time for everything.
Peach cobbler, giant ice cream cones, blueberry pie – summer has no shortage of incredible desserts. It’s the time of year for everything fruity and streusel-y and cool and creamy and, perhaps best of all, EASY – and there ain’t nothin’ wrong with any of that. But I think if we had to choose a winner, the one definitive quintessential summer dessert, it just has to be s’mores.
S’mores are the ultimate warm-weather treat – so simple, but so satisfyingly ooey-gooey and chocolate-y. They just scream summer to me, and I couldn’t let a summer go by without paying tribute to the ultimate summer indulgence. I would never do that to you!
Passover starts a week from tomorrow, and for someone who’s not even Jewish, I’m pretty excited about it.
Growing up in Los Angeles, almost every one of my best friends was Jewish. I’ve partaken in countless Passover seders, Shabbat dinners, and Hanukkah candle-lightings over the years and I find so much to love about Jewish culture and traditions…and FOOD! Many of my favorite comfort foods are rooted in Jewish culture (thank you, Jewish friends’ moms and awesome Jewish delis). Give me matzah ball soup, latkes, or a fresh-baked loaf of challah and it brings me right back home to LA.
